After losing 50 pounds and keeping it off since 2019, I've learned that you don't have a knowledge problem – you have a thinking problem. But one of the simplest ways to support your thinking is to support your body with the right fuel first thing in the morning.

Why High-Protein Breakfasts Matter

When you start your day with protein, you're doing something powerful: you're regulating your hormones.

Remember those four main hormones I always talk about? Ghrelin, leptin, insulin, and cortisol. When you eat a high-protein breakfast, you're telling your body: "We're good. We have fuel. You don't need to panic and crave sugar all day."

Protein keeps you satisfied. It stabilizes your blood sugar. It prevents that 10 AM crash where you're reaching for the cookies in the break room because you had toast and jam for breakfast.

Here are my five go-to high-protein breakfast ideas that actually work for real life:


1. Overnight Oats

This is one of my favorites because you make it the night before. No morning stress, no decision fatigue when you're already running late.

  • 1-2 cups cottage cheese (I like Kirkland brand from Costco)

  • Diced apple and 2 chopped kiwis OR frozen fruit (let it sit for 30 minutes)
  • Sprinkle hemp hearts, unsweetened coconut, and pumpkin seeds if you like

Don't try to overhaul your entire life. Don't say "I'm going to eat protein every morning forever starting now." That's the kind of all-or-nothing thinking that sets us up to fail.

Just do it once. Tomorrow morning. Then see how you feel.

I bet you'll feel:

  • More satisfied
  • Less snacky mid-morning
  • Proud that you kept a promise to yourself
  • Like maybe, just maybe, you can actually do this

And that's everything.

Remember This

Your body isn't meant to run on sugar and refined flour. It's not meant to be in constant crisis mode, wondering when the next meal is coming.

When you give your body protein in the morning, you're saying: "I've got you. We're taken care of. You can relax."

And from that place of being taken care of, of feeling satisfied and nourished, everything else becomes easier.
